This oil painting was created by Frederick Alexcee (1853-1940s) a painter and carver of Tsimshian descent who lived in Port Simpson (previously Fort Simpson, previously and subsequently Lax Kw'alaams)
In addition to the Open to Collaborate Notice applied to our whole collection, we are applying an Attribution Incomplete notice to this item because the information we have about this the painting may be incomplete and possibly inaccurate. We also recognise that there will be Indigenous interest in this painting and the catalogue data associated with it.
This item will be loaned to the exhibition “Empowering Art: Indigenous Creativity and Activism from North America’s Northwest Coast” held at Sainsbury Centre, Norwich UK, 12 March-30 July 2023.
